Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are you reliable?

We install approximately a million square feet of roofing per year, plus service calls. We inspect each project on a regular basis to ensure that the job is progressing smoothly. If you are interested in receiving some names and phone numbers of some previous customers of ours, please feel free to ask us and we'll happily provide the information.

How big is Sullivan and Fortner?

We are a medium-sized company. We are large enough to ensure that you receive quality service and state-of-the-art equipment and small enough to ensure that you don't get "lost in the shuffle." We do re-roofing work and repairs on structures ranging from small, single-family homes to large commercial projects.

Do you carry liability insurance?

Yes. Our policy is with an A-rated carrier who is reliable and will be around if any problems should arise. We have $2 million general aggregate coverage and $1 million each occurrence. Our policy is "occurrence" rather than "claim made" policy, which protects both parties into the future. Roofers are notorious for either not having liability coverage or having coverage with a company that disappears when claims arise. This is an important issue to protect both you and the contractor. You should ask for proof of liability insurance coverage before work commences.

Do you carry Worker's Compensation Insurance?

Yes. This insures anyone working for Sullivan and Fortner who injures themselves; their medical costs and income are paid by the carrier. Neither you nor Sullivan and Fortner are liable for any damages. You should ask for proof of Worker's Compensation Insurance coverage before work commences.

Who are your insurance carriers?

For Worker's Compensation, general liability and automobile insurance, our agent is Henriott Group and our carrier is Cincinnati. All insurance is updated annually.

What do you do about lien notices?

We have excellent credit and no suppliers send preliminary lien notices to our customers. Consequently, you do not have to worry about having a lien put on your building. The majority of our materials are loaded by our own employees from local roofing supply companies.

What warranties do you offer?

For most of our roofing jobs involving asphalt-fiberglass shingles, we offer a non-prorated material and labor warranty. For all other jobs, the workmanship warranty is ten years.

What types of roofs do you install?

While we have experience with a wide variety of roofing applications, the vast majority of our work is devoted to residential re-roofing, with most of that work involving the installation of "3-tab" and "architectural" (or "dimensional") asphalt-fiberglass shingles. And while the bulk of our work is devoted to steep-slope roofing (i.e., "shingles), we also install low-slope roofs for both residential and commercial applications. The majority of this low-slope work involves the use of EPDM (black "rubber") and SBS (high quality, granular-based "roll roofing") membrane roofing systems, along with some recent jobs that have used a TPO (white "rubber") membrane system. We have moved away entirely from so-called "hot roofs" ("old" technology) to embrace "cold-applied" systems ("new" technology) that are much more environmentally friendly and much safer to the customers/homeowners and our workers.

Do you clean up the job site?

We keep your property tidy on a daily basis and, at the end of the job, we do a thorough final clean up to ensure there is virtually no sign of the construction work that has just been completed. However, if we are tearing off your existing roof, some debris is unavoidable. If you have any unique landscaping features that are of concern to you, we suggest that you talk with a representative of Sullivan and Fortner before we start the job so we can ensure that your concerns are addressed.

Do you have an office secretary or office manager?

Yes. Christine is normally in the office from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily. If she is forced to step out to run errands, we try to make sure that somebody is here to answer the phones until she returns. If for some reasons you fail to find a real, live human to answer your call, we do have an answering machine. Thus, if nobody answers your call during the day or if you need to leave a message with us when the office is closed, just leave a detailed message and call back number and we'll get back with you as soon as possible.
